Whiteladies Road, Bristol, January 2022

I shot this moment one morning on Whiteladies Road in Bristol; the light was low and incredibly harsh. I noticed the haloed silhouette and hard reflections on the tables through the restaurant windows; only after I raised the camera did I see the fractured reflections.

At the time, I was focused on the figure, but after seeing the whole frame, I decided to leave the image uncropped. The result was quite a departure from my initial intent, but I’m now drawn to the layering, abstraction and borderline surrealism of it all.
