Tunis, Egypt, May 2022

I was in Tunis Village, Egypt, having travelled for two hours through the desert. Tunis is known for its ceramics and galleries; it was naturally quite vibrant.

This house stopped me in my tracks, and how could it not? The directly contrasting colours, messy edges and hard light. The rest of the village was also painted, but more figurative and illustrative; Here, the simplicity and statement drew me in.

I don’t really consider colour one of my strong points. If anything, I’m even a bit wary of it, with most of my favourite shots in black and white. My eye tends to land first on line and shape before colour, but I can’t resist a big old block of it.
